Welcome to St Thomas More Performance Music 2009

Over the last 5 years, instrumental music has been gradually reintroduced into the College. In 2005, Instrumental Music gained further ground and was firmly established as an important part of our curriculum. Currently one quarter of our school population choose to study instrumental music in the areas of:

• Music Theory
• Piano/Keyboard
• Voice/Singing
  
• Strings/Violin/Viola/Cello/Double Bass
• Woodwind/Saxophone/Clarinet/Flute
• Guitar/Electric/Classical
• Drums/Percussion
• Speech and Drama
  

Students of Classroom Music in Years 9 - 12 are recommended to study an instrument privately, as this study is not available within the class subject but it is required for students to be fluent in at least one instrument.

Over the coming years, it is intended that that College’s reputation for Excellence in the Arts will grow and be enhanced through vibrant and exciting programs in instrumental music (including music technology) and be recognised nationally for our Programs of Excellence in fields of music such as Jazz, Rock and Classical. This will also involve tours of Music performance groups both nationally and internationally.

The College offers some of Brisbane’s finest instrumental music teachers to deliver an excellent program in Instrumental Music. All STMC Instrumental Music teachers have considerable careers as teachers and performers in their own right, with most of them having toured nationally and internationally in performance and teaching.
This year, our teachers will work with instrumental students on an individual, group teaching and ensemble performance level.

STMC Choirs and Music Ensembles:

STMC Vocal and Instrumental Ensembles perform at a wide variety of school events throughout the year, including liturgies and masses, school assemblies, open days, public forums, service opportunities, as well as inter-school and industry competitions, such as the Catholic Colleges Music Festival, held in August each year.

Instrumental Music Hire:

St Thomas More College has embarked on a program of purchasing quality musical instruments available for student hire at reasonable and heavily discounted prices. Precise information is available on the Instrumental Music Application Form.

The College has a selection of quality Yanigasawa saxophones for hire as well as a number of high quality Violins, Violas, Cellos, Double Bass, Clarinets, Flutes, Trombones and Trumpets.
