Community

At St Thomas More College students have a fundamental right to learn in a safe, supportive environment and to be treated with respect. Providing a safe and supportive environment is essential to achieving school improvement.

Students feel more connected to their school when they believe that the adults and other students at school not only care about how well they are learning, but also care about them as individuals. Young people who feel connected to school are more likely to succeed academically and make healthy choices.

Pastoral Care is the holistic development of young people encompassing the physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual wellbeing of both the individual and community so that mutual concern, support and care prevails within the College community.

Pastoral Care Classes

All students are allocated to a Pastoral Care group. In Year 11 and 12, Pastoral Care groups are allocated to their Junnebei (house) group. These morning sessions allow the teacher to take a more personal interest in each student, build positive relationships, and help students to prepare for the day ahead. The Pastoral Care class is where the development of the whole person is able to be nurtured.

The Pastoral Care teacher is the first point of contact between home and school. Students meet with their Pastoral Care Teacher in a set lesson every day. This regular meeting enables the teacher to take a more personal interest in each student's academic and social development. Pastoral Care Teachers are able to track student's progress. Each year level has a Pastoral Leader that provides student support and oversees Pastoral Care on a year level basis.
