Social Justice & Service Learning

Involvement in social justice and service learning initiatives is a core expression of the mission of Catholic schools, encouraging students to live out their faith through meaningful action. At the College, the emphasis is on adopting a Solidarity model in mission initiatives, focusing on working alongside marginalised communities in mutual partnership. This approach is reflected in the College’s involvement with organisations such as:

  • Emmanuel City Mission
  • Rosies
  • Edmund Rice Community Services
  • St Vincent de Paul Society
  • Orange Sky Australia
  • Caritas Australia (Project Compassion)
  • Catholic Mission
  • Sunnybank Special School

As well as partnerships with the communities of Cherbourg and Thursday Island. Through these opportunities, students engage directly with those in need, cultivating empathy, understanding, and a deeper commitment to addressing social injustices.

The College integrates social justice into both the curriculum and co-curricular activities. Students explore issues through Catholic Social Teaching and reflect on ethical responses to real-world challenges. Programs like Vinnies fundraising, Edmund Rice Camps, and volunteering at Sunnybank Special School offer hands-on service opportunities. Senior students can also earn a Certificate II in Active Volunteering by completing 30 hours of community service. These initiatives aim to develop compassionate leaders committed to systemic change.
