Aerospace Gateway to Industry Schools Program

St Thomas More College is proud to be a partner in the Aerospace Gateway to Industry Schools Program (AGISP)—a Queensland Government initiative that connects students with real-world opportunities in aviation, aerospace, and STEM-related industries.

This program is designed to inspire and prepare students for future careers in high-growth sectors such as aircraft maintenance, engineering, drone technology, and space exploration. Through structured learning experiences, students gain access to:
  • Industry-led workshops and guest speakers
  • Work experience placements and facility tours
  • Exclusive grants, scholarships, and awards
  • Networking opportunities with leading aerospace employers

Aerospace Systems: A New Horizon
In 2025, STMC introduced Aerospace Systems as a General Subject, giving students the opportunity to explore flight theory, aerodynamics, and aerospace technologies in depth. Highlights of the subject include:
  • RC Aircraft Project – Students transform foam gliders into remote-controlled planes, applying engineering principles and hands-on skills.
  • Rocket Launches – Designing and testing model rockets, comparing real-world data with OpenRocket simulations.
  • Industry Excursions – Visits to Flight Tech Australia and Basair Aviation College to explore aircraft mechanics and career pathways.
This subject complements the AGISP by providing academic depth and practical experience, helping students develop systems thinking, problem-solving, and technical literacy.

What Students Can Expect
Throughout the year, students also participate in a variety of immersive activities, including:
  • Cabin Crew Experience Days with Aviation Australia
  • Launch and Learn sessions featuring companies like Boeing, Wing Australia, and HyperSonix
  • Career-focused events such as the Aerospace Industry Education Awards and International Women's Day Networking Breakfasts
  • Holiday programs like UQ's Spring Into Engineering and BOP Industries' Airline Builders
  • Space-themed initiatives including our annual Space Week and STEMinists in Space panel discussions
Pathways and Partnerships
The program also supports curriculum integration and career development through:
  • Certificate III offerings in Aviation and Industrial Graphics
  • Collaboration with Brisbane Catholic Education and tertiary institutions
  • Mentoring opportunities through initiatives like the Becoming More program
Whether students are interested in piloting, engineering, or space science, the Aerospace Gateway Program helps them take flight—both academically and professionally.

At STMC, the sky is not the limit—it's just the beginning.
